Reasons for Hiring Emergency Fire Watch Guards

You may require these services if your alarm or sprinkler systems suddenly malfunction or if your facility loses power. Our team often receives last-minute requests from facility managers who didn’t realize their activities, such as preplanned maintenance or hot work, would require fire watch.

Whatever your reason for requiring these services, they provide numerous benefits, including:

  • Convenience: Fast availability means you can keep operations moving, whether in an office building or a hospital.
  • Protection: Fire watch professionals offer continuous monitoring and know-how to respond in emergencies to reduce damage and harm to people.
  • Peace of mind: Knowing someone is watching 24/7 lets you relax and focus on other management areas.
  • Liability reduction: Fire marshals require fire watch in particular scenarios. Emergency access to professionals reduces the risk of liabilities.

24/7 Fire Watch Security From National Firewatch

Our on-site guards are backed 24/7 by our support and dispatch teams. When you need emergency service—or to add more guards to an existing deployment—we’ll respond quickly with prompt deployments customized to your needs. Whether you need a single safety expert for a daytime watch or an entire team to monitor around the clock, we’ll work with you to find the right solution.

Our work includes patrolling the premises for safety issues, such as fire hazards and blockages that could influence evacuation. Guards work in shifts to provide constant coverage. After their patrols, they document all observations in a detailed log.

If safety issues arise, such as smoke or flames, they take the necessary safety steps: alerting building managers, evacuating occupants, and calling emergency teams. Our experts are trained to reduce the chances of death, injury, and property damage in scenarios with elevated fire risk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is your documentation done on paper or digitally?

Both options are available. If the fire marshal provides a specific log format, National Firewatch will use it. If no log is specified, the company generates its own digital log via a guard app. Guards submit hourly reports tracking their location and patrol activity.

What does your fire watch log / report include?

Fire logs document each guard patrol (every 30–60 minutes), their location within the property, and any observations or hazards noted. Reports are generated via a guard app and can be shared with the client and/or the fire marshal.

Do you pull permits for fire watch services?

No – National Firewatch does not pull permits. The client or property manager is responsible for coordinating with the fire marshal or AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction) for any permit requirements. NFW provides the documentation/logs that satisfy the fire watch obligation.

What does the fire marshal require for fire watch?

Requirements vary by jurisdiction. The fire marshal may specify: the patrol frequency, the log format, the number of guards, and the coverage hours. National Firewatch works within whatever the fire marshal mandates. When no specific requirements are given, the company defaults to hourly digital reports and standard patrol protocols.

How often does the guard patrol / make rounds?

Guards conduct patrols every 30–60 minutes, depending on the property size and any fire marshal requirements. Each patrol is logged digitally. For multi-floor buildings, one guard typically covers the entire property per shift.

Can the fire watch guard report observations digitally (photos, reports, app)?

Yes. Guards use a mobile application to submit hourly written reports, which can include patrol notes and observations. Photocopies or digital reports can be generated as needed. The same system is used for both fire watch and security services.

Can you cancel or extend service at any time without extra charges?

Yes — service can be extended or cancelled at any time at the same rate, with no penalty. The per-hour rate remains consistent.

Does the fire watch guard monitor the full building or just specific areas?

Guards monitor the full property, including all floors, common areas, service areas, egress routes, fire extinguishers, and suppression systems. For targeted issues (e.g., only 4 of 18 buildings affected), coverage can be scoped to specific areas.

Who decides how many guards are needed?

National Firewatch agents assess the property size and fire marshal requirements. For most single buildings, one guard per shift is standard. Larger facilities or those with multiple affected areas may require more. The client can also advise based on their fire marshal’s direction.

What happens if the fire marshal shows up during a watch — does the guard have all the paperwork?

Guards carry the fire watch log and maintain a real-time digital record of patrols. This documentation is available to present to the fire marshal or AHJ on-site.
